Toner Cartridges
have replaceable parts and can be recycled indefinitely. Most
toner cartridges are kept in stock and can be exchanged. Pricing
assumes exchange of an empty cartridge. Core charges range
from $5 to $40.
Proper Care of Ink Jet Cartridges
Ink Jet Cartridges can be recycled 0-6 times. There
are no replaceable parts so successful cartridge recycling
depends upon proper care. Prevent drying of cartridges by
reusing the cartridge packaging; even reapplying the printhead
tape. Caution: do not substitute other types of tape –
permanent damage may result. Store an empty cartridge in
a sealed plastic bag and turn in to be recycled as quickly
as possible to prevent drying.
Avoid touching the electronics and
printhead. Perform occasional printhead cleanings (see owner’s
manual). Color cartridges are more difficult to recycle
and require special attention. Stop printing as soon as
any printed color does not look right. Ink acts as a coolant
and continued use after one color is empty shatters an internal
glass piece and the cartridge heads to the landfill prematurely.
Store the color cartridge with the printhead pointing down.
Avoid messes by storing empties in a sealed plastic bag.
